An 11-year-old girl died Tuesday at the hospital after suffering an accident at the Amusement Park in Drayton Park, about 25 miles from Birmingham. The victim fell into the water from a boat when he enjoyed a descent by a stream of water on a school trip.
The girl was rescued from the water alive by park employees before the arrival of emergency services. She was taken by air to a hospital where she died, police said.
"The intensive care ambulance staff took care of her before arriving at the Birmingham Children's Hospital, where doctors continued the treatment applied in the transfer," said an ambulance service spokesman. "Unfortunately, the girl died after arriving at the hospital."
Emergency services have not reported the injuries that caused the death. Neither the identity of the victim is known.
The attraction, called Splash Canyon, is described by the park as "the most unpredictable and exciting of rapids." A visitor to the park, Fiona Fletcher, told the BBC she saw park staff members with "tears running down her face".
The water attraction was closed after the incident. Drayton Manor Park will be closed this Wednesday in mourning. The accident is being investigated by the British security agency.
